Instead of calling ahead, text ahead

I don’t know about you, but I hate going to the store and finding that they don’t have what I’m looking for. Especially when you live in a big city like San Francisco and any store that isn’t the Walgreens on Mission Street is, well, a mission of its own to get to.

So I’ve always been that friend who insists on calling ahead. It could be a Christmas gift, it could be how long the brunch wait is, anything at all, and I’ll insist we call ahead before taking two buses and walking up a scary hill. I swear, it’s a reasonable request, especially when hungry. But it’s never fun to sit on hold while Target runs around their huge store looking for my Jenga game, or when the waiter has 18 other calls coming through and can barely hear you anyways.

But what if you could text a business instead?

Path is a social network company who originally created the network Path, focused on sharing your day’s “path” through photos, location, music, activities, status and more with your friends.

They’ve now launched a new app, Path Talk, and you now have the power to text any business with your question. Some businesses are connected to the texts, and others Path will call for you and will text you back your answer. So instead of calling, waiting on hold and standing around listening to elevator music, you can send a quick text with your question (How late are you open tonight? Do you have any Stephen Curry jerseys in a small?) and continue your Netflix binge uninterrupted by the phone static while you wait to get a text back.

It also allows for group messaging, with the ability to share your location, photos, even the music you’re listening to. Makes it super easy to stay in touch with your long-distance boyfriend or your brunch group.

It’s a fun mix of messaging and social media, with the awesome twist of being able to text your local Target. It’s free to download on iOS and Android, so check it out.
